Protecting Floridians Through Education and Outreach
Across Florida, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s (DBPR) Unlicensed Activity Program (ULA) connects with consumers and professionals through events like community gatherings, home shows, disaster recovery sites, and educational forums. The goal of this outreach is to help Floridians understand licensing requirements, recognize warning signs of unlicensed activity, and make safer hiring decisions.

Why Education Matters
Unlicensed activity puts consumers at risk—financially, legally, and physically. Education helps reduce these risks by giving Floridians the information they need before hiring a professional.
Through in-person events, DBPR helps Floridians:
- Understand why professional licensing matters
- Learn how to verify a license before hiring
- Recognize red flags and common scams
- Know how and where to report suspected unlicensed activity
Types of Events We Attend
DBPR participates in a wide range of events to connect with Floridians in meaningful ways. These include:
- Home and trade shows where DBPR connects with homeowners planning repairs, renovations, or major projects
- Post-disaster and recovery events that provide guidance on avoiding unlicensed contractors and scams
- Community outreach events with neighborhoods, civic groups, and local organizations
- Educational workshops and presentations delivered in partnership with associations and professional groups
- Partner-hosted events coordinated with other agencies, law enforcement, and community partners to support statewide initiatives
- School and career outreach at school job fairs and at career and technical education programs to educate future professionals about Florida’s licensed trades
